Opeloge's New Role :
2012 will see Opeloge begin a new role that he is very passionate about. Opeloge will be assuming a new role as a lecturer, mentor and Pasifika Music Co-Ordinator at Te Koki, New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) based at their Kelburn campus in Wellington. NZSM is a joint initiative of Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington. Wellington is the capital of NZ surrounded by beautiful mountainous landscape and characterised by consistently windy weather.
Weather aside, Opeloge's role at NZSM aims to encourage and support more students of Pacific descent and ancestry to choose music as a career path and subject/degree to undertake at both Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate levels. Opeloge's experience and background in several roles as a performer and educator has seen him given the chance to facilitate such an exciting and important opportunity provided by NZSM for Pasifika students to seriously consider Music as a study option.
Pacific Island students have always had the "musical talent" to perform on the music and drama stages. However, the steps have never existed before at tertiary level to provide real opportunity and support for Pasifika students with the musical talent to study music and follow their passion of performing, teaching music or study other musical desicplines following it on to possible career paths in music through a first class tertiary education.
Opeloge will provide support, guidance and mentoring for students in the lead up process from years 12 and 13 at high school level, through to the duration and completion of the students degree (s).
If you are a student with Pacific ancestry and identify with Pasifika roots who is interested in studying Music at Tertiary level.
